Back to the Grindstone.

Well I started back to school today. I'm pretty much lost in Algebra. I can't remember how to do some things. but ohwell. I can hardly wait for backpacking season. It's coming up pretty fast.I'm going to have to buy a spare battery for my cammera I think. because at the temperatures I will be at, batteries don't hold their charge for anything. that's about 60 bucks. But ohwell.

I bought a new version of the Bible, actually just the New Testament, called The Message. I got it down in Texas, at the recomendation of John and another of my friends down there, Dr. Jenkins. At first when I would read passages I would automatically reject it, because it sounds different than the KJV I've been brought up with. I don'tknow why really. I guess I just wanted to be cautious. But as I asked myself if the new translation had actually changed the content or the meaning of the passage, I invariably came up with a "no". So I started reading at the beggining, Matthew. I found it way easier to read as a story. Sometimes maybe even so much in the vernacular of today that I'd go to the KJV and compare. So far I haven't found any conflicts, and I don't really expect to. I never really have been a KJV onlyist, but now I'm a definate advocate of newer translations. I still like the rhythm of the KJV, and I think it's important to have a common denomonator in a body of believers; I think the KJV is great. But be careful not to break the unity Paul spoke of so much over such a trivial issue. I talked to my mom about it and she suggested I read a book called From the Mind of God to the Mind of Man. So far I've only gotten into the introduction but already I understand a lot more. I hope this made sense. Anyway, I've got to go now. Later
